The Groovy DUI: When Disco Fever Meets Legal Trouble

In late August 2015, the disco fever was alive and kicking for one Wyoming man who found himself in a peculiar situation – arrested for DUI under circumstances that could rival a scene from a ’70s disco movie.

This cool cat initially drew the attention of law enforcement when he was pulled over for speeding and crossing over a fog line at the side of the road. Subsequently, he was administered a breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15, well above the legal limit for a DUI charge.

However, the spectacle unfolded when the police searched his vehicle, a Chevy Tahoe – a modern-day counterpart to the classic Volkswagen van. What they discovered inside could only be described as a treasure trove of retro items from the disco era.

Among the far-out loot in his ride were stacks of $20 bills, a sleeping bag, and a pillow – perhaps essentials for a spontaneous disco adventure? But it didn’t stop there; the search also turned up a specialized leather bag containing a personal bowling ball, a white fuzzy vest with a popped collar, multiple pairs of shoes, and the pièce de résistance, a disco ball.

When confronted by the police, this groovy character seemed to have some dance moves up his sleeve. He reportedly told the officers that they couldn’t arrest him because it would cost him his job, and then he made a daring getaway. Evading capture, he managed to stay on the lam for nearly two weeks before his eventual arrest on September 4. As of the latest update, he was still serving time in the “Brick House” – well, the big house.

What NOT To Do When Pulled Over for DUI

While the allure of a disco-themed escape may seem appealing in the heat of the moment, fleeing from the police, especially after registering a high BAC on a breathalyzer, is a terrible idea that’s bound to turn a night of dancing into a legal problem.

Instead of attempting a daring getaway, the wisest course of action when facing a DUI charge is to stay put and cooperate with law enforcement. Trying to evade arrest only exacerbates the situation and can lead to more severe consequences.

In such circumstances, seeking immediate legal counsel is paramount. A seasoned DUI attorney, such as those at Thomas & Ahnell, LLC, can provide expert guidance and representation, helping individuals navigate the complexities of DUI charges and potentially mitigating the legal repercussions.
