Colorado DUI Defense Attorneys Answered Questions Regarding Legal Marijuana in the State for 4/20

Denver, May 10, 2016: DUI defense attorneys Jake Johnson, William Smith and Jason Wolfe of the law firm Thomas Law Firm hosted a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) on April 20, 2016 to answer questions relating to legalized recreational marijuana use in Colorado.

Due to the relative novelty of legalized recreational marijuana and the disconnect between state and federal law, the attorneys hoped to clarify the local laws for residents of Colorado as well as visitors to the state. The AMA lasted six hours, with the discussion delving into the specifics of legal marijuana possession, testing for marijuana and the various ways you might be charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

“Marijuana cases are great cases to take to trial for the simple fact that the science is just not quite there. The state wants it to be, and they think it is, but it just isn’t. There is no level in Colorado whereby if you have such and such amount of marijuana in your system, you are absolutely guilty. Compare that to alcohol where at 0.08, it doesn’t matter if you were fine to drive or not or if you drank the night before, if you’re at 0.08 or over, you are guilty,” attorney Jake Johnson said, referring to the shaky science behind blood testing for marijuana’s active ingredient, THC.

Jake Johnson, William Smith and Jason Wolfe are DUI defense attorneys at the Denver-based law firm of Thomas Law Firm. They are part of a larger team of attorneys who work closely with clients charged with impaired driving charges like DUI, DWAI and DUI-D, as well as certified professionals such as medical affiliates and accident reconstruction experts dedicated to clarifying details in impaired driving cases.
